Words on Africa Limited is a pan-African PR and communications company, based in the UK and operating in 22 countries across Africa. It has been working, since 2007, to accelerate development and economic take-off through engagement in key sectors that include agriculture, technology, real estate, finance, and nutrition.
It is close to unique as a bilingual English and French- speaking boutique agency specialising in strategic communications and advocacy across the continent, while also owning PRAlerts, which is one of only two pan-African media distribution services on the continent.
The group’s operations were first launched in Nairobi, Kenya, as PR company African Laughter Limited, by award-winning former BBC and Financial Times’ journalist Jenny Luesby.
The Group
African Laughter developed an early specialism in real estate PR, which it has since dominated in East Africa. It was responsible for the launch of the Hass Consult’ land and residential property price indices and has also handled communications for every East African Property Investment Summit for the last eight years.
From 2009, African Laughter began publishing the region’s first and leading farming news service www. farmbizafrica.com, which, as recently as 2019, won the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) awards as the country’s best agricultural blog, after eight earlier international awards for the quality of its journalism and its contribution to agricultural development in Kenya and across Africa. These awards included a citation in the CNN Multichoice African Journalism Awards.
The group’s leading position in agricultural communication has also included its PR work for AGRA, project management with the African Union communications team on the CAADP pan-African agricultural development scorecard, and work throughout the continent for CropLife Africa & Middle East. At the same time, its growing portfolio of technology clients has included Liquid Telecom, East Africa’s leading data centre, and Microsoft. In 2017, the group added Kenya-based research and analysis company Research Tree Africa to its portfolio and in June 2019, it brought the group’s businesses and brands together under the UK company, Words on Africa. Today, its operations remain concentrated in East Africa, but with expanding nodes of operation in West, North, Southern and South Africa and a growing UK business providing analysis, curation and consultancy services for international companies reporting on or building their African footprint.

Jenny Luesby
Managing Director
A former BBC and Financial Times journalist, Jenny now manages the group’s panAfrican communications work from the UK. She managed East Africa’s largest portfolio of real estate PR for over a decade, living in Kenya from 2007 to 2018. She now specialises in multi-sector strategic communication and marketing, social media and advocacy campaigns for pan- African real estate and tech companies, industry associations and international organisations, including the World Bank and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition.
Jethro Tieman
Business Development Director
Jethro grew up in France and Africa and now leads the development of Words On Africa’s Francophone business, following from undergraduate studies in business management and entrepreneurialism.
